"Me: WTF is going on here?"

ususally i wouldn't come here to announce that two dudes in polyester suits with cheap ties wanted to convert me.
i am long past that "excitement", been out for a couple of years now.
this was the first time they rang my door bell.
"Me: WTF is going on here?"

i asked my son quite randomly before bed what he thinks the meaning of life is.
like always, his answer brought a smile to my face.
he said, "to have a great time .. to have fun and have friends ... and be happy.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE 5 year olds Thanks for sharing.
have you heard what the "big announcement" is to be this week.
supposedly the bethel homes will get some announcement today and the congregations will announce the new something by the end of the week..
How long is this school?
a higher education is of no value when you allow yourself to slowly be baked in to the cult.
the remarks above came from a sister who has a college degree in social science and biology and loved logic and critical thinking.
we at jwn sometimes assume a higher education might help people see through the smoke and mirrors which did not happen in this case.
A brother asked the congregation how they would know someone was anointed. The answers varied from, "They are always sooooo humble, approachable, and spiritual", to "They definitely have an aura, a glow about them".
I never quite figured out which answer he was looking for.

.
raising two boys in the jw religion, family traditions that were passed down from generation to generation were thrown away because they were attached to a holiday, birthday, or some other "forbidden" thing.. traditions associated with assembies, book studies, etc, were nice, but they never seemed quite genuine to me.. eventually the boys grew up, and learned how to make their own decisions.. but still after all these years, my wife and i still feel a certain amount of pain because of what they missed.. and now with both of them in their 20's, starting from scratch with passed down, heartfelt family traditions,,, this is a really neat experience.. the above article talks about how important traditions are for helping develop family togetherness.. how do you feel about developing traditions with your family now that the influence of the wt society is no longer hanging over your head ?.
We celebrate the holidays and bdays and the kids LOVE it! More importantly, we are not so tired from theocratic activities that we forget to be a real family and have real life experiences.
after considering several possible colors for the new bible the governing body finally lovingly decided on gray.
.
after all, they said, it will match the hair of everyone who waits for the promises of the watchtower to be fulfilled..
LOL - good one.
when i was a kiddo growing up, i wasn't one of those that we all heard at assemblies giving their experiences... "here, let me show you the answer from the bible..." <reaching into their a** bringing out a bible>.
no, i would sit there in the audience, and think... that person has balls to do that.. when i went to grade school, i tried to keep as low of a profile as possible.
it was bad enough that i had to start the day by not saying the pledge of allegience like all the other school kids.
It was very embarrassing being different in school. And it was worse feeling ashamed for being embarrassed because I was different. Because that meant that I wasn't a good enough JW.
What a screwed up religion.
recieved this email a few days ago, it reads like a typical jw chain email that gets forwarded around.
but it almost sounds like something the writing dept would start circulating as fiction propaganda...... .
subject: warwick experience.
"Jehovah is doing something very different here." ---- Something's different alright.

zac's first tooth just fell out, and so people are telling him that the tooth fairy will come with money.
zac asked me if the tooth fairy is real.
i am at a loss as to what to say.
Yeah diamondiiz. JWs will make a huge deal out of the traditional and mostly benign fairy tales. All the while, insisting that Jehovah and the angels are watching a kid's every move. And, of course, brainwashing the kids that Satan and the demons are ready to attack them at every turn. It's so crazy.
Funny thing. Even as strict JW parents, my mom and dad left us money under our pillow for each tooth.
I'm curious as to the answer to laverite's question as well.
